The owners inherited an unfinished, unsafe sunken garden started by a previous DIY builder. Facing unstable retaining walls and a messy layout, they needed The Yard Squad to engineer a structural fix and create a space that matched its beautiful Cotswold surroundings.
Our Solution
We stabilized the site and transformed it into a luxury outdoor retreat.
- Structural Wall Stabilization: Reinforced and secured the concrete block retaining walls to meet proper engineering and drainage standards.
- Sleeper Wall Cladding: Clad all concrete faces with rich timber sleepers for a warm, natural aesthetic.
- Bespoke Venetian Fencing: Installed slatted timber fencing to add privacy without blocking natural light.
- Curved Indian Sandstone Patio: Laid a custom curved sandstone patio to create a durable, elegant living area.

Project Spotlight: Multi-Element Garden Overhaul in Wiltshire
The Challenge
The homeowners wanted to maximize their outdoor space in a picturesque Wiltshire village with distinct zones for relaxing, dining, and family use—all while maintaining a cohesive look that complemented the local architecture.
Our Solution
We designed and executed a multi-element landscape plan incorporating premium stonework, bespoke timber, and dual-lawn solutions.
- Patio & Raised Sleeper Beds: Crafted a spacious Indian Sandstone patio framed with custom raised timber sleeper beds to add depth and natural greenery.
- Pizza Oven Platform: Built a dedicated, heavy-duty Indian Sandstone platform perfectly suited for outdoor cooking and entertaining.
- Perimeter Sandstone Path: Laid a matching Indian Sandstone pathway wrapping around the entire house for seamless accessibility and clean lines.
- Dual Lawn Areas: Installed a low-maintenance artificial lawn in the high-traffic activity area, paired with a lush new natural turf lawn for traditional charm.

A versatile, beautifully zoned outdoor living area that perfectly balances high-end entertaining with practical family living.
Project Spotlight: Artificial Grass & Patio Extension in Swindon
The Challenge
Like many new-build properties, this home came with a poorly laid concrete patio and a waterlogged, clay-heavy lawn. The owners needed a clean, low-maintenance garden that would drain properly year-round and provide a level, functional space for outdoor living.
Our Solution
We completely excavated the problem clay, built a heavy-duty sub-base built to last, and corrected the builders' rushed patio work.
- Heavy-Duty Ground Prep: Dug out the clay soil to a depth of 150mm and laid a 100mm compacted Type 1 sub-base to guarantee proper drainage and long-term stability.
- UC4 Timber Framing: Secured the entire perimeter with haunched-in UC4 pressure-treated timber edging for a solid, rot-resistant border.
- Precision Surface Finish: Installed a 40mm layer of compacted grano dust topped with a heavy-duty non-woven geotextile membrane to block weeds and protect the turf.
- Patio Fix & Extension: Re-laid the builders' uneven original slabs and seamlessly extended the patio using matching concrete paving at the owners' request.
The Result
A mud-free, perfectly level artificial lawn paired with a extended, level patio—turning a standard new-build yard into a durable, year-round living space.
